I spent many a night when I was young at 39 Gold Street Collingwood now known as O'Driscoll Cottage. My auntie would tell me stories about the war and of course breakfast in bed. There was an SP Bookie up the lane at the rear of Auntie's place and even my auntie was known to place the odd 20d bet. I benefited from the empty beer bootles which Mrs Blake would save for me and I would sell for 10d a dozen at the local bottle yard.I believe the Police raids were frequent but there were lookouts to warn the punters. These were the good old days which I dearly enjoyed. I did see Billy on his visits and you couldn't help but like him. He certainly will be joining plenty of friends up there inclding my mother, father and Uncle Jack Patrick.

Hi there. My Father was Alan Driscoll, his dad Edward Walter Driscoll, his mum 'Hanna' or Anna or Johanna, did not marry (!) but had 3 children before the man of the house took her name. Her father was William who married Catherine, and they had a William, Daniel, Johanna, and Catherine in Rotherhithe, London area. The original William was born in 1849, in Cork, Ireland. I am curious to find out any more info....as with the 'out of wedlock' nature of things information was sparse.

I was just googling my father's name, Robert O'Driscoll who died in 1977 and came across your site. Thank you so much for the surname info. I have always been told that the "O" was added and thanks to you I know why. I started looking to see if my deceased Mother had an siblings. You have given me renewed strength to start looking for many more answers as I have no one to ask. Thanks again my fellow O'Driscoll :)

Enjoyed your family history. My maiden name was Driscoll and I am 6th generation Australian but am true to my patriotic ancestors who were sent as political prisoners/convicts in 1815. I am a descendant of John Driscoll and Julia Lynch from Bantry Bay area. Will be attending 2009 Reunion. Regards

Hi.. loved your website. My grandfather and great grandfather (both named Jeremiah Collins) came from Dunmanway in about 1856 and I visited there very briefly in 1996. My great-great grandmother was an Honora Driscoll married to Tim Hurley and their daughter Ellen married my great grandfather probably in the 1830's. Unfortunately I do not know where she was from although I assume Dunmanway. There are so many families with the same first and last names it is lmost impossible to figure them out especially when you get back into the early 1800's. Eileeo

What a wonderful website! I'm not of the same lineage, just browsing other sites, but you've done such an outstanding job I could not leave without a comment. Congrats and good luck with your continuing reasearch.
